Consell Comarcal del Maresme (Maresme County Council) serves 30 municipalities in a surface of 397 km2 with a total population of 300.000 inhabitants. The economical structure of the Maresme area is varied: agriculture and industry have an important role, but services, like tourism, are increasing their weight every day.
Consell Comarcal del Maresme is a local public administration indirectly elected among the municipalities of the area. It is composed by a plenary session, presidency, management and several working areas. There are also autonomous organs, public enterprises and assessing boards.
Its competences are: municipal cooperation and planning, environment, social affairs, personal services, tourism and promotion of the economy and occupation.
European Resources Office (ERO) was established by the Maresme County Council to facilitate to its municipalities the access to funds, initiatives and European programs. The municipalities adhered to the ERO are: Alella, Arenys de Mar, Arenys de Munt, Argentona, Cabrera de Mar, Calella, Canet de Mar, Dosrius, Malgrat de Mar, el Masnou, Palafolls, Pineda de Mar, Premià de Dalt, Premià de Mar, Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, Sant Cebrià de Vallalta, Sant Pol de Mar, Sant Vicenç de Montalt, Santa Susanna, Teià, Tiana, Tordera, Vilassar de Dalt i Vilassar de Mar.
The main tasks of the ERO are:
Information: Assessing all information coming from European Union and conveying to each municipality.
-Training: Organizing conferences and seminars in order to give a wider knowledge to local politicians and technicians about the European Union programs and subjects that are interesting for the municipalities.
-Monitoring:
{.d}Proposing the most interesting European programs and initiatives to the municipalities; suggesting projects and putting different municipalities in contact for the development of common projects.
-Advice to the municipalities about their participation in European nets, forums, meetings, etc.
-Assisting about European issues in future local strategic plans.
-Collaborating with local development agencies.
-Promoting the exchange of experiences between El Maresme and other municipalities or regions of the European Union and the candidate countries.{.d}
-Diffusion of experiences: Transmitting information about projects approved by the European Commission that can be useful for the elaboration of new projects in El Maresme.
-Projects: Elaboration of projects for the Maresme County Council as well as for the municipalities adhered to the Office.
